Daniel Longo was born in Djilang, Wathaurong Country (Geelong, Australia). Longo’s multi-disciplinary practice explores images that react to fragmented, distorted, or altered bodies. A critical component of his current research utilises a pseudo-surgical exploration of human desire through the fusion of photography, sculpture, and sound within the genres of psychological and body horror. By grotesquely manipulating bodily materiality, Longo’s works seek to symbolically veil/unveil intangible phenomena—revealing and concealing latent facets of the human psyche. Employing a sadist approach to the material, he aims to embody human desire by transgressing moral boundaries and, as a result, antagonising conventional notions of the body.

Longo has exhibited many times throughout Australia and Europe, including Germany, the U.S.A., Denmark, Austria, and France. He has photographed theatre for many years, which influences the way he stages and lights models for projects. He specialises in chiaroscuro lighting and editing techniques coupled with an agency for antagonising bodily limitations.

Longo’s interest in art was cultivated during his teenage years and further developed when he opted to take his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art at RMIT, Melbourne. After completing his degree, he finished his Honours within the Top 3 First-Class Graduates and is now completing his Master of Fine Art. Longo was selected in the Top 20 Graduates in Australia during the Ballarat International Biennale 2021. In addition, he won First Place in the International Photography Awards 2021 and received an Honourable Mention in the Moscow International Foto Awards 2021.

Longo lives in Geelong & Melbourne, where he continues his practice whilst available for creative and collaborative work relating to photography and art direction.
